I have an older tv with Roku device and and a newer with google integrated [hisense]. Google is very cluttered imo. Roku device also connects to my hearing aids with bluetooth. Google does not have that option. Thinking about rebooting the google tv to original factory settings and installing a Roku device for this very reason.

  2. I bought a TCL Google TV And then a Roku Ultra cheaper than just buying a Roku TV. Best of both worlds. Haven’t quite decided which I like better. Wish I could put the best of both together in one package.

I have a Google TV box, a Roku, and a fire stick connected to each of my TVs. For the most part, I think I prefer the Roku interface, but I also like the Google TV interface. I don’t like the fact that the Google TV interface is as busy as it is, but it does have things that I like about it. So I’m still trying to decide.

  4. Im trying to help my older neighbor ditch Comcast cable, she likes streaming, now she’s getting the hang of it. She pays over $270 a month! We’re check up on her & she’s usually watching the Ion channel on cable, which she can get free with the antenna we hooked up, she’s definitely set in her ways. She’s 81 now & like family, I just hate seeing her social security raped for $270 every month. I swear if the Ruko had a number pad on it, that would be all it would tske.

Something is going on between the youtubetv app and Roku. The YT tv app will not open. The only method of accessing is going through my iPad TY tv app to access

  6. I personally like the Google tv BUT! for my aging parents, Roku Ultra is perfect for them. Folks are in their mid 70’s and they cut the cord about 2 years ago. I got them a Sony Bravia and the google tv confused them. They needed something simple. Their cable channels were easy to maneuver through. Google tv not so much. So the Roku is their sweet spot. They are 1000% satisfied with it. Mom loves speaking into the remote as well. She doesn’t have to search for anything anymore. She did that with the Sony but for some reason she had problems with it.

  11. I prefer Roku because the interface is easier and the main reason 3RD party, it is not linked to a directly to a service ie: amazon, and Google.

I have a Sony TV with Google built in and it’s good. I also have a Roku stick on the same TV. I keep the Roku mainly due to the headphone app option. In particular the ability to connect more than one set of headphones at once tow whatever you are streaming. Can’t find any other sticks or steaming apps that have this capability aside from Roku.

My last three TVs were Samsung, but I don’t like their OS. I really prefer Roku’s OS, so I have Roku Ultras connected to my living room and bedroom TVs. I also keep PCs connected to those TVs and I usually watch TV via my Chrome browser. That is usually YouTube, but I occasionally watch other streaming services that way. I have been thinking of buying a Hisense or TCL TV this year. If I do, I will see if I like that better than Samsubg. However, I doubt I will prefer it to Roku. Roku was the first smart TV platform I experienced.

  16. Google TV vs Roku, which is best for Sports content? I have a Sports package with my Comcast cable that includes almost every major sports program/network in US.

  17. Neither—the Apple TV is by far so far ahead of these 2 streamers. Faster, cleaner, and better remote.

Apple tv beats both of these services without the nasty ads! That being said google is a far superior service. Roku sucks anymore. What good is Roku with a good phone app interface if you can’t get to the homescreen because of the pre roll full screen ads. Roku ruined its product

Google TV’s ROKU app works fine. .. If I were to stay with cable or go fully streaming I would go with Google TV. They have ROkU in there and you such a great YT interface. I think Google TV is going to keep taking cable tv customers

  30. I never used them so I lean towards roku because I heard that it’s more simple to use.

  31. TBH none of them compare to an Apple TV when you compare speed, lack of intrusive ads, remotes and longevity… I have a Roku ultra and while it is fast, it’s CONSIDERABLY slower than my Apple TV.

  32. I use Google TV (not the one featured), and my family uses Roku Ultra. I can’t stand the ads on Roku, but the remote is pretty cool. As far as Google TV is concerned, the app freedom, or at least the amount, is leagues better in my opinion. Plus, having a mostly non-ad-based interface is nice.

  41. I don’t subscribe to Youtube TV and I have always had a Roku so I’ll stick with my Roku Ultra. Over the years I’ve learned most of the ins and outs or Roku and except for their Media Player Privacy Policy that allows it access to all of my Family Videos on my USB thumb drive to every App on my Roku, I like it.

  49. One thing both need is larger icons and fonts. They are simply too small for a 70 YO when watching on a small TV in a bedroom from a few feet away. What is acceptable size on a 65" or larger TV is not acceptable on a 27" TV.
