Just buy normal powerbanks, and charge them in a socket or with a real 7W panel. Never keep them in the sun, the battery will damage, may bloat, or even explode.

    These things are a scam!

PS: either a fully charged powerbank, OR a 7W panel (take a panel that has USB-A or USB-C output) can do the trick in emergencies.

This is correct. I have a similar version.
Battery banks charge well on grid (or powerful solar power)
When fully charged, they’ll last DAYS to power your phone.
When left out in the sun all day, it takes DAYS to charge them fully.

You can charge your phone with its solar power, but these are best used in an emergency.

  14. Solar power banks are mostly a scam. Unless they have a fold out panel they simply can’t fully charge a dead battery in any reasonable time.

Only time they might be better than nothing is in a survival situation. If out in the middle of nowhere it’s better than nothing but still not a feature I’d pay much for.

If you don’t turn the solar device to directly face the sun throughout the length of exposure you will receive drastically reduced results.
You can’t just lay the device flat on the ground all day and expect optimum performance.

  18. I have one of these too and yes they suck. I took mine camping thinking how it would be so helpful. Nope I let that sucker marinate in the sun while we were doing our thing, only to turn it on and have about 10 minutes out of it. So don’t rely on them.

  37. Some people are saying that a normal chargeable power bank it’s better, hm yea exept that those power banks can also be charged with a cable, the solar panel is for some emergency situation or very slow passive recharge, I’ve got one of those if fully charged it can power my phone 0-80% for 3 times without needing a recharge.
Using only the solar panel it would take days to fully charge the power bank, but after 10h under non optimal sunlight (cloudy sky/sub optimal angle) it does 0-15% of my phone (5000mAh) which is decent considering you use it when you cannot have acces to electricity, otherwise i would charge both the phone and the power bank via USB.

Also there are some with both solar panle and handcrank dynamos, but idk how much u need to turn that crank in order to achive charge necessary for an emergency call

I have one of these and let me tell you how well it works. If you leave it in the dashboard of your car all day or you leave it in the kitchen window in full sunlight, it won’t charge it enough to top it off, ever.
You can easily charged it up in the house when you plug it into the wall and it will hold that charge like a storage device which is awesome but a storage device is usually smaller because you don’t have to have a worthless solar panel attached to it
