My first one was a m1 air, now I have a m3 pro with m3 pro chip, itโs insane, more than a year with it and the bare health still 100%(im using aldente app, and plugged in whenever I can)
Once someone said to me an engineer should not be dependent on his gadgets… He should be known because of his works… This was said to me by a freelancer earning more than 20000$ per month and leading a team of 15 people using 10 year old laptop with arch linux ๐
its virtually impossible to get viruses or malware via just visiting websitte domains no matter how sketchy ( the threat of leaking IP address or having person info entered into the site stolen is real), but downloading and running files is the real risk and since MacOS doesnt support .exe or other windows filetypes, its alot less targeted, but there are still malware devs on MacOS and linux as well, just not as much.
got a 2020 M1 Macbook Pro 14 inch from work and it worked like a charm for fullstack development… That thing only had 16gb of RAM too and I was running some pretty big projects.
I got fired recenlty and just bought myself a 16 inch nano M4pro Macbook Pro with 48gb RAM. Can’t wait to see how that goes :).
Sewccuurreee… What you scared your broken hellow world code or one of your clips will get stolen? When they say iOS and MACOS is Seckuuree, just know that they have ran outa points
Get yourself an old Thinkpad install Linux (Arch btw) and you good to go. No need tp spend $2000. My Toshiba Satellite Pro from 1999 still running smooth on Arch
Used my Dell xps 13 9350 for 9 years, ran android studio, did react and angular development just fine. Did cost like $1200 back then but it’s finally time to swap but a MacBook air M series will do just fine. I still dont like the OS and use a MBP M1 Pro for work and i still hate the os ๐ญ
One thing that always puzzles me whenever I watch reviews of MacBooks or any powerful laptop, for that matter, is why almost every reviewer seems to be a software developer, photographer, or film editor. Itโs as if those are the only jobs in that country. Am I the only one who notices this, or is it really the case that most of you have those kinds of jobs?
Real dev use a T430 running ubuntu or arch
Built for Devs… Yet you can’t even build the machine itself, soldered Ram!!
If you actually want work done, get a workstation or thinkpad
Well… We can’t test Apple apps on Microsoft or Linux but macOs can run android emulator ๐ i think true
Mac doesn’t have viruses cause no one cares enough to develop em
Bro I use a 7 year old thinkpad and its better than any mackbook
What about alienware17R1
My 2018 16โ MacBook Pro was maxed out, but itโs showing itโs age now.
Shall i go for macbook air m4 or macbook pro, my budget is 1200$ but can push a little
Your smile tells that how happy you’re with your MacBook Pro๐.
I use arch BTW,
It sucks
how do you configure your macbook pro to run vscode. mine fights me the whole way and half works

Engineers definetly do not prefer mac, since their software doesnt run on mac. Unless your talking about software engineers.
rm -f everything ๐๐๐๐
My Thinkpad T61 from 2007 with arch works just fine. Spent $20 instead of $2000.

Is is good for runnning android studio
Only 1 thing keeping me away from Mac: repair costs and no upgrading anything

Just dont tell Richard Stallman this
My 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch is the worst piece of computer equipment Iโve ever bought.
Msi left the chat ๐
Visual Studio Code, designed by Microsoft, runs better on Mac.
linux

thinkpad with arch>>
MacOS is so secure because there aren’t a lot of pol using it compared to windows sor viruses are mostly made for wondows
I am glad that you are recommending 15 and 16. 13 and 14 arenโt big enough to type on comfortably and the screens are too small
Top comment of shame
"and to this day, I’ve never gotten a single virus"
me, a linux user: what’s a virus?
Meanwhile linux here๐
Software or web developer?
Sewccuurreee… What you scared your broken hellow world code or one of your clips will get stolen? When they say iOS and MACOS is Seckuuree, just know that they have ran outa points
If it’s not upgradeable its not going on my desk. I don’t hate MacOs. I dislike the owners.
man removed everything lmaoo
What have you created as a developer?
Every schmuck making react components considers themselves software developer.
That font size in editor is diabolical

nah bro, everyone know that the best for devs is an thinkpad
Limewire aint questionable๐
Iโm still using my Early 2008 MacBook. It works perfectly fine and runs maOS X Lion 10.7.5.
Doesn’t run visual studio natively which is a major problem.
how tf your battery last that long? I gotta charge mine damn near after an hour only using google chrome and a few tabs
Legion is better

Real developers use self made debian linux distros on any scrap piece of metal.
Real engineers use a beat up Thinkpad with Arch
